sustainable infrastructure for local talent

Strategic Priorities 2026-2028

What we offer

Our interdisciplinary team provides services and infrastructure designed to support the sustainability of an independent research sector. Our core offering is a unique operational and programatic coupling. SILT’s bespoke fiscal infrastructure ensures researchers can work smoothly and confidently. At the same time, SILT’s coaching, workshops, and trainings help researchers build robust social infrastructure to keep data in the hands of affected communities. We support researchers to build data sovereignty, protocols for community accountability, and the governance they need to sustain their work.

At the intersection of the environment and data

In 2026-2028 our portfolio will prioritize researchers working at the intersection of the environment and data. These may be researchers collecting data on changes in water, soil, or air; technologists building tools for community-led climate response; public health researchers working at the intersection of climate and disease; innovators in agri-tech; advocates working in conservation; and other related fields.

Hosted researchers at SILT might be early career individuals who recently completed studies and have just received fellowship or other grant funds; they may be mid-level or established individuals or teams who wish to host a research project outside of a university or other institution; they may be communities or groups of advocates/innovators who are looking for a home to receive funds. The connective thread between all hosted projects is shared commitment to and curiosity about what sound, evolving data stewardship and data sovereignty should look like in their work.
